Who Are We?
A Story Born from a Love for Bali
After selling Nouvelles Destinations, the tour operator I had built over more than 15 years for the French market, I decided to make a long-held dream come true: living abroad.
Originally from the south of France, we were looking for an island where life would be good all year round, with generous nature, endless things to discover and, above all, warm and welcoming people. On a friend’s advice, we came to Bali for the first time in 2009, for a month of discovery.
It was love at first sight.
We had been warned: “If you come to Bali once and go back a second time… you’ll stay.”
They were right.
A year later, we moved to Bali with a few keepsakes from France and, above all, the desire to start a new life.
It was while discovering Canggu and Echo Beach, still far from the buzz they have today, that we fell in love with the place. We found what we were looking for: the sea close by, the rice fields, nature, Balinese life, and that rare feeling of being both a few minutes from town and already in the countryside.
It was there, among the rice fields and a few minutes from the beach, that the idea of United Colors of Bali was born. In 2012, we opened our first place: nine villas in Canggu.
Places Chosen with Heart
Over the years, United Colors has grown, but always with the same philosophy: not simply to build hotels, but to choose places where we would want to stay ourselves, and that tell a story.
Each address began with an encounter, or a wish to share another side of Bali and Indonesia.
In 2014, we opened Joglos, three superior villas.
In 2017, we set sail for Gili Meno, where we found that feeling of total disconnection that had left such a mark on us in our early days: a small island, turquoise sea, turtles, sunsets and a gentle way of life you won’t find anywhere else.
In 2021, in Canggu, we wanted to preserve this connection with nature and create a place dedicated to wellbeing, yoga, retreats and stays that give you time for yourself.
In 2024, on Nusa Lembongan, we wanted to offer another side of Indonesia, with ocean, snorkelling, beaches and island life.
And that same year, at Bali Nature, in the heart of the rice fields of Bebali, we found the more secret, authentic Bali that won us over during our first years on the island: paths through the rice fields, villages, nature, and the feeling that time slows down.
More Than a Hotel, an Experience
Today, United Colors is a collection of independent places, each with its own personality, setting and story.
We don’t try to reproduce the same hotel everywhere.
On the contrary, we want each address to show you a different colour of Bali.
Our ambition is the same as on day one: to introduce you to a warm, welcoming and accessible Indonesia, far from the impersonal standards of international hotels.
An Indonesia that is not just visited.
An Indonesia that is lived.
Because the real Bali isn’t always found in guidebooks or on social media.
You discover it by taking the time to look, to listen, to meet people, to taste, to walk…
And above all, by letting the island surprise you.
Our Commitment to an Orphanage
Since 2011, we have supported the Yappenatim orphanage in Gianyar, on the island of Bali. It is home to more than a hundred children. This commitment is funded by donations, sponsors and a share of the profits from our resorts’ boutiques.
It is part of the way we live in Bali. And every time you step into one of our boutiques, you contribute to it, without even thinking about it.
